What I Did at the Hustler Building Last Week…

…I got a travel visa for BRAZIL!

Let me explain:

1 – My local Brazilian Consulate is located in Beverly Hills in the Flynt Productions high rise building.
2 – I’m going to Brazil.
3 – I’m going to Brazil TOMORROW. *Gah!*

How the Brazilian Consulate ended up in the same building as Larry Flynt and his Hustler enterprises, I have no idea. What I do know is this:

  • U.S. citizens are required to have a pre-approved, $160 pre-paid visa to enter Brazil.
  • The visa is valid for 10 years from date of issue, and allows a 90-day stay with multiple entries.
  • The application process is easy breezy:
    1. Go to this site.
    2. Click on Visa Request.
    3. Fill out the form.
    4. Schedule an appointment.
    5. Go to the consulate with these items in tow:
      • Your passport
      • Appointment email confirmation
      • 2×2 photo on white background
      • A $160 USPS money order
      • Printed documents showing your flight itinerary into and out of Brazil
  • The appointment takes no more than 10 minutes.
  • It takes one week to process.
  • The visa takes up a full page of your passport.

And BAM. I’m going to Brazil. Stay tuned!

Update: Larry Flynt sold the building a few months after this post (and made a killing). However, the Brazilian Consulate has not moved. It is still located at 8484 Wilshire!

  1. OMG!!! I’m going too…but I’ll be there for Carnival on the 6th. How long are you staying? It’ll be really cool to meet you! Have fun!

  2. Guess who had the wonderful opportunity of meeting this fun-loving, charm-filled, kewl-as-hell, great little cutie just last night at a CS meeting? If someone’d told me I’d learn some Vietnamese on that dull Wednesday, I’d say they were crazy. But life has its twists and turns, and, as someone nicely put to me that same Wednesday evening, “when you give out good energy, you get good energy back, I truly believe that now more than ever”. A short introduction, lots of talk about Vietnamese and a travel card later, and here I am. I hope you have an absolutely fantastic time in Brazil, Thy! Thumbs-up for your incredible traveling blog. When it comes to writing, you’re a natural! I’ll be waiting for a book on your adventures! ;-)

    • Kennedy! Talking with you was the highlight of my night at Mercado Bar. Thank you and “Cám ơn” and “Ευχαριστώ!” Please do keep in touch, I hope we meet again somewhere in the world.

  3. Sweet, I’ll be in Rio on Thursday for a month at Casa do Caminho. I finally met my travel match. Do you have a map on your blog?

  4. And by match I mean you make me look like a boy scout.
